The Slag!

Posted By: Big Little

Up and coming producer and DJ, fellow Vancouverite Lance Lasheras, aka THE SLAG, has just released his first EP entitled Midnight Express under Champion Beats and it’s already topping Beatport charts. Man, did The SLAG get it right this time.

Midnight Express features 4 bangin tracks, expertly mixing 3 parts dirty electro with 1 part house influenced sounds and 1 part Oh Fuck Yeah, creating the perfect aural cocktail. The distortion fucks you up while the house influence energizes you – It’s like 4 Loko for your ears!

Here’s the tracklisting with some previews that The Slag was kind enough to provide.

Seriously good stuff from the Slag. You can check out and buy the full tracks on Beatport or on his Soundcloud where you’ll also find some of his bust-worthy remixes.

One of The Slag’s remixes stands out to me by far, for nostagliac reasons, and just because it’s a fucking good remix. The Slag puts his sound behind the rhymes that are widely considered to have popularized hip hop in North America (or if you’re like me, the ones that were copied and made popular in the 90′s by Redman and co.). These rhymes are so classic, they were made back when lyrics braggin about havin a color tv were cool.

The Sugarhill Gang – Rapper’s Delight (The Slag Remix)

“bang bang, the boogie to the boogie say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie let’s rock. you dont stop. rock the riddle that will make your body rock”

More nostalgic bonus remixes!

Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get It On (Purpl Pop Remix)

This remix by Swedes Purpl Pop is so catchy. It’s so easy to ruin classic tunes like this one and they didn’t at all. They totally transformed it into something that’s catchy but impossible to dislike. Only Purpl Pop’s second production, as far as I know. Look out for these guys as I hear they’re gonna be releasing some more stuff soon.

Michael Jackson – Bad (Kill Them With Colour Remix)

Sometimes when you mix two things you like it ends up poorly (don’t try beer ice cream floats). Sometimes you get great tunes like this. Check out our old post on Kill them With Colour

Grandmaster Flash – The Message (Tape Deck Bros Remix)

One of the other tracks that is said to have incited the popularity of hip hop back in the day gets a proper remixing.
